Top 10 of 2012

10) Silent House, a unique take on a film in that they tried to make the whole movie feel as if it was a single shot.

9) Cabin in the Woods, a satire which makes fun of every horror movie ever made. For some reason people didn't understand this movie...it had a unicorn kill someone. It was a joke.

8) The Amzing Spider man, the weight of retelling this already widely known origin story so soon after its predecessor, crushed what could have been an enjoyable installment to one of my favorite super-heroes.

7) Sinister, a film that made me so uncomfortable that I could hardly sleep after watching it. Great use of music, camera angles, and creepy imagery this was easily the best horror movie of 2012.

6) Django Unchained, a great film to just sit back and watch. A new twist on classic cowboy/western films with amazing performances by the whole cast.

5) The Avengers, an amazing super-hero movie years in the making. Action packed and exactly what a comic book movie should be. It felt like reading a comic book, all the actors gave it their all and they seemed to really care about the franchise.

4) Brave, my favorite Pixar movie to date. Everything about this movie, from the voice acting to the Score was enjoyable for me. One of the movies I went out and bought just so I can watch it again and again.

3) The Dark Knight Rises, in my opinion this was the best of the Dark Knight Trilogy and im sad it has to end. This was one of the most enjoyable on the edge of my seat movies of 2012. I would gladly sit down and watch the best trilogy of all time any time I got the chance.

2) The Hobbit, Proving that Peter Jackson belongs in middle earth this continuation of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy moved it from the 'Best Trilogy of All Time' to the 'Best Saga of All Time'. A masterful and beautifully shot film that felt much shorter than it was and left me wanting the next 2 installments sooner rather than later.

With such a close year in movies (mainly the top 3 films) it was hard to choose a winner. But after seeing it several times, and appreciating all it had to offer to film my number one film of the year is...

1) James Bond: Skyfall, this film was so visually pretty, story driven, well acted, and full of things that you dont notice until the second or even third time viewing this film that it has to take the number one spot. This film takes you by the hand and explains to you, We are not the old bond films “we are an old dog with new tricks” as the movie says, it is a masterful work on every level and deserving of Best Film of 2012.

An amazing year to film, with the promise of 2013 being just as good if not better. Here is to the future of film and movies.
